Classrooms and office are visited. 40 pieces of furniture (3 seater) are delivered. Latrines and GCR are almost finished, doors are missing because they are used in the house for the teacher. This will be changed soon. With government funding 2 extra latrines (block of 3) are build.
With Agnes and Selma of the Mothergroup we spoke about the girl marriages. Selma is 19 years old and teaches standard 3 at the school. She has a boyfriend but is not married. No plans also. Agnes was 16 when she got married, but that was a ‘special case’. Most girls get married when they are 19, 20 or 21. Girls that marry young are rare. They get first pregnant and then get married with the father. In some cases, when the girl is to young the community breaks up the marriage. Pauline, was such a girl and is now back in school. Mothergroup share information and knowledge with the mothers and girls what is happening when they have their first period. They explain the purpose of GCR so the girl can stay on school and stay not at home for 1 week, which was the custom.
Initiation is a 3 day event now and is on only the sharing of information on hygiene there is no ‘practice’. Lifeskills activities are informing the girls on sexuality, aids and self protection.
