‘Hoe kijkt coördinator Say Say Phaw terug op het project?’

De partner vertelt... van 14 januari 2025 door Say Say Phaw

Elk jaar vragen we onze partner hoe het project is gegaan en welke lessen de partner heeft geleerd.

Context and summary

Describe the original plan/idea for the project. Has the project been executed as planned?
Daw Aye Myint, community facilitator has the passion to support the children with disabilities in her communities, love children and know that children with disabilities need protection and she would host the children at her house and implement the activities because there is no such activities or service for children with disabilities in her communities. She dreams of building a community development training center for children and Persons with disabilities in coordination with TLMM and also local network groups services where the activities on Physiotherapy and special education and also training such as livelihoods and farming training could take place. After the field visit from the representatives from World Servant in 2019 the preparation for the building project together with the adult team from Netherlands in 2020 was initiated.
Due to the COVID-19 crisis without any certainties the project was postponed to MY321 hoping that the construction together with World Servant team could take place later but again needed to postpone once more due to ongoing pandemic and the Country crisis from the beginning of 2021 which is much more difficult than the pandemic. Finally, with the funding commitment from World Servant it was decided that HpaDo building project will be executed with the local team.

Give a (short) general description of the implementation of the project.

The foundation was started in mid-2020 as a preparation to host the Dutch team. Later together with the funding from World Servant and the contribution and support from TLMM and Local communities the building for the learning center was completed in late 2021 which was inaugurated on 31st January 2022.

How do you look back on the following topics? How was it arranged, what went well, what could be done better?

Construction

Buildings worked on
It is a one-story building with 2 main halls and a corridor in between. Each hall could accommodate the total of 20 to 30 persons and could be used as training hall and office. At the moment one of the rooms is used as the office and the other as the resource center and training hall. There is an extension at the back of the office which is now using as Day Care Center.
The learning center is built on a piece of land that was used for farming but nowadays is becoming close to the residential areas and a good location and accessible by car. Truly a good spot for the learning center for person with disability and there is still space left for vegetable farming.

Tasks to be done

Daw Aye Myint has the vision that in future she would like to add another floor to the building so that the building could host children with disability as a hostel. Her vision of the Day Care center for children already came true in 2023.
*Since from the very beginning they made sure that the foundation to be strong enough for 2 story so that they could build up if there is more funding.
