‘Hoe kijkt coördinator Alex Sundas terug op het project?’
De partner vertelt... van 29 november 2022 door Alex Sundas
Elk jaar vragen we onze partner hoe het project is gegaan en welke lessen de partner heeft geleerd.
CONTEXT AND SUMMARY
* Describe the original plan/idea for the project. Has the project been executed as planned?
The original plan was to finish at least one class room and the outside wall so that we can paint the logo wall outside the class but we were able to finish 2 class rooms, do the paintings and also finish outside wall. So we were happy to be able to do more that we expected.
* Give a (short) general description of the implementation of the project.
We were excited to host the first project here in Nepal. We are also happy that we got the advantage to prepare for a longer time due to Pandemic. I believe that everything well smoothly. The project went very well than we had expected. To take care of large group is a hard task but we were able to pull it off. We also got good support from the participants and the group leaders as well. The leaders were very well aware of their responsibility. The contractor was also available when needed. The group was also friendly and had a vision with them to finish. I believe they had a new experience in Nepal.
*How do you look back on the following topics? How was it arranged, what went well, what could be done better?
CONSTRUCTION
- Buildings worked on
We were able to finish 2 class rooms, do the paintings and also finish outside wall. The group did a good job after learning it once. They followed the instruction of the contractor well and improved on their mistakes. but it was a challenging at the beginning with aligning the bricks but later, they did well.
- Tasks to be done
Tasks to be done : Plastering is complated,Finial touch is need to paint and Door and window need to fixed. In our country time for election so after election all the work will finished.
PROGRAMS
- Children program
The children program went very well. The children had a lot of fun and learned a lot. They still mention that they wanted to spend more time with the participants
- Cultural and touristic outings
The cultural and touristic outings was really good. We experienced new cultures together and saw the beauty of Nepal together.
- Life Skills program and/or Football for Water
This program also went well. The children learned and had fun.
COOPERATION AND INVOLVEMENT
- Leadership team World Servants
Very cooperative with each other as well as with us. They asked a lot of questions for improvement during the construction program.
- Local leaders / key persons
They visited the project site often to talk with the participants and involve in the construction as well. First day everybody was looking at 25 young white people, Next day slowly they asked where are they from, what is the purpose of the building. We answer them they are from the Netherlands helping to build the school for Badi children. The local people are happy and said that the Netherlands people have a loving heart for Nepali People. The most important thing they said in their own mouth is we feel proud of all voluntary parents who teach and participate to help others. The local and key people appreciate their work and in the community people, they hope coming further their children got a good education. In society, people thought school or education is important so we have to support them.
- Community
The community was also helpful and provided help as well during the construction. Our work is based on community so we need a blueprint of the land same time permission to build a house, we approach them and they signed the paper. even though they said if you need any kind of help they are ready
- Beneficiaries
Was cooperative . The young girls feel extra in the school voluntarily they create a child-free environment, and still our children remember the lifestyle of Netherland people they still remember and the song and creative work. our children experience that part of study we need extra activities which help us to move forward.
- (Local) authorities
The local authorities were informed about the participants coming for the project and showed their cooperation. They meet the group and some of the local authorities people came to the building they talk normally and see the work. They react that in Nepal our technology is not good but they did perfect work by learning for 10 minutes or seeing the work.
FACILITATION OF THE TEAM
- Accommodation
We were not able to accommodate the participants together due to governmental laws but we brought them together during breakfast, lunch and dinner. They went to their own hostels to sleep only.
- Food
The food was carefully made for the participants. In accordance to the menu selected by the participants themselves before they came to Nepal. But we did not know there were vegans in the group before.
The challenge is to manage the water in the morning because we need lots of water in the morning, and the groups understand well.
- Transportation
The transportation was arranged by the school by giving their bus to transport the participants to and from the project site. The bus was comfortable enough for the participants. We also has a emergency transport in the project site. In the morning school bus will help us but returning from the construction area and time school ends is arround the same time, so it gives us challenges next project we will manage it.
- Safety
We had an emergency car ready to be used during emergency. We also had a first aid kit at the hostels and the project site ready. When we know the group arrival time and departure time we inform our local government and our local area police with the letter and we have a voluntary form with a photo we have to submit when the group is at the childcare home within 24 hours.
LESSON LEARNED
* We had one struggle before the start of the project. That was the road was in construction so we couldn't unload the materials to the site. The community did not let us go to the site as well. But thanks to God it was finished before the participants came to Nepal and we were able to unload the materials before the project started. Another struggle was the building blueprint not being approved in time. Until the last minute too it was not approved. By faith we went ahead with the project and only did the basic constructions. Later in the second day of the project we got the blueprint approved.
* I think having few meetings with the team leaders will help the partner organization to manage more efficiently and plan accordingly accommodation, food, construction duties, cultural and children programs for the participants and not rely in on the spot plans which puts pressure on the coordinator and the leaders as well.
