Laminaya also finished and in use!
Project update van 24 januari 2020 door Edward Bailor
Edward shared some photos where you see the children in front of their new classroom block and has written an update on the increase of pupils because of the new classrooms.
The new 4 classroom block has created a huge impact in school enrolment in the Laminya community and its surroundings. The new building has given more children access to education. It is clear from the school data that in 2018/2019 school year the total enrolment of the school was 271 (boys 126 and girls 145).
As a result of the new 4 classroom block, enrolment has increased to 346 (138 boys and 208 girls), about 78%.
In terms of percentages, for the boys, school enrolment grew from 126 in 2018/2019 school year to 138 in 2019/2020 school year. An increase of about 40%.
For the girls, enrolment grew from 145 in 2018/2019 school year to 208 in 2019/2020 school year. An increase of about 60%. This is unprecedented especially for girls in a region (Northern region of the country) where education for boys is prioritised over girls. A significant number of girls in the Northern region are prevented from going to school or completing their education due to cultural and Islamic religious practices such early marriages, pregnancies, poverty and sexual abuse,
The number of other villages that the school now serves has also increased. Before, children came mainly from nearby villages such as Laminya, Kamalo and Robanka. The new 4 classroom block has attracted children as far as Makassa.
