De partner vertelt... van 14 januari 2025 door Moffat Zulu
Elk jaar vragen we onze partner hoe het project is gegaan en welke lessen de partner heeft geleerd.
Context and summary
Describe the original plan/idea for the project. Has the project been executed as planned?
Yes it has been fulfilled as planned, 2 teacher Houses and extra projects as in VIP Toilet for the students, Renovation of 1x2CRB and installation of Solar lighting
Give a (short) general description of the implementation of the project.
This was a transformative project which involved full interaction by local people and the dutch people during the project. local people learnt a lot of things from the dutch and vice vesa. The projects which includes Teacher houses Renovation of school block provision of water and solar lighting to school is not only going to offer quality education but that Donje has become a hub of many activities in the area. so many communitry programs will benefit from this successful projects.
How do you look back on the following topics? How was it arranged, what went well, what could be done better?
Construction
Buildings worked on
we built 2 teacher houses 2 toilets at teacher houses with bath rooms. we built VIP toilet for students and we renovated 1x2CRB
Tasks to be done
Mixing motor, ferrying stones, sand and bricks, water drawing jointly with community members, laying bricks. putting concrete,
Programs
Children program
every working day we had childrens program from 10:00 to 12:00. the program went on very well the dutch participants were very prepared, we had more children coming to attend childrens work. some times it was overpopulated having more children including the very smallest children it was so interesting
Cultural and touristic outings
Home/House visit remains an amazing part of cultural program, i hope it helps the participants as well. the local people like it so much to be visited in their homes though the cultural difference is high but both groups find it beneficial.
the participants participated in different local works like at the garden, cooking local foods, and heading cattle (milking).
Going to Safari, seeing nature (animals) it really pleases everyone. we cant afford to skip Safari because it adds more value to the whole mission trip. seeing animals (elephants hippos in real life) is such a wonderful thing
Life Skills program and Football for Water (also include the amount of tranings given and the number of people from the community actively involved in training).
In life skills about 20 young boys and girls were actively involved. they like the training we hope it helps them to grow as responsible citizens. Iron sharpens Iron, we heard that Life skills program also helps the dutch participants as they teach they discover new things which can improves their lives, this has to be encouraged though it starts at a slow pace but later it is appreciated so much.
Cooperation and involvement
Leadership team World Servants
the WSN leadership team was excellent, very positive indeed.
Local leaders / key persons
The headteacher and deputy were excellent, we had little challenge from the PTA chair who was not able to be at the project always they might have local family differences luckly some village heads were able to coordinate others and the project was smoothly done
Community
like always in a community we have weaker and stronger community/villages, they coordinated very well to the end of the project with some villages being mixed with those who are dedicated to the project. they provided all necessary building materials but sometimes some local people did not come to join the participants despite arranging the translators. In totality in was a nice community
Beneficiaries
the Beneficiaries in this context
(Local) authorities
the local authorities at Ministry of education were so excited for such a rare chance to execute a developmental project (message received by phone).
The tradtional leader/chief really wanted the team to visit the palace but was not possible because village headmen around the area were not present for the visit
Facilitation of the team
Accommodation
well done
Food
always good and enough
Transportation
it has improved greatly especially having our own transport its such a blessing in disguise
Safety
we traveled in a safe mode and we worked in a safety environment there was no much of risky taking. the communication was up to date in many things and that's very important we tried to avoid surprises which can cause panic.
Lessons learned
1. To keep the local people motivated even when they are seeing massive progress at the project theyd still concentrate on their local issues which may hinder development.
2. for the WS some issues need to be handled or resolved right there at the project not all issues can be taken/reported to WS office unless the problem is beyond to be managed by local partner and both leadership teams.
